This word comes from the x86 platform name, which first
originated from the Intel 8086 processor.
If you have a 64-bit version of Microsoft Windows when
opening your hard drive you may see that you have a Programs Files and Programs
Files (x86) directory.
For backwards compatibility it allows you to run older
programs under the new 64-bit operating system. If you're having trouble
locating a program in the Programs Files directory try also looking in the
Programs Files (x86) directory.
